Hello, my name is Kian and welcome to my Blog!

Greetings, fellow gamers and enthusiasts! My name is Kian Edwards, and I’m thrilled to extend a warm welcome to you as we embark on an exciting journey through the realm of board games, design, and creativity. Hailing from Brisbane, Australia, I’m honoured to share with you a glimpse into my world as an up-and-coming board game designer.

Concept Art of Robot Designs by Steven Peterson

I’ve been avid fan of board, card and tabletop games for as long as I can remember, having got my feet wet with a (badly painted and assembled) box of Warhammer Fantasy Orcs at a very young age. Armed with a tube of Tarzan Grip superglue, off-brand paints and a hairdryer (I was too impatient to just let them dry normally), I mangled those poor Orcs more brutally than any swords or griffin claws ever could. Despite this butchery of tiny plastic people, my earliest foray into the tactile world of miniatures, dice and rulebooks remains a very fond and formative experience for me and one which has always kept me coming back time and time again.

For me, the magic of tabletop games is the physical experience and interpersonal interaction, an itch that can’t quite be scratched by any other form of entertainment. I love nothing more than sitting around a table and puzzling out a new ruleset alongside others, figuring out optimal plays as a newcomer to a particular game or mentoring someone else on the ins and outs of one I’ve already played many times.

Now, I’ve decided it’s my turn to contribute to this dynamic tapestry of tabletop entertainment. I’m thrilled to announce that I’m currently in the midst of developing my debut board game, Spare Parts, a drafting game where players collect components and compete to assemble the best mechanical menagerie of Robots, snagging vital pieces away from opponents or disrupting their strategy with powerful special robot cards.

As I continue to fine-tune Spare Parts and bring it to life, I’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes insights, design challenges, and exciting updates right here on this blog. From concept sketches to playtest feedback, you’ll be along for the ride every step of the way.

My ultimate goal is to get Spare Parts published as the first in a series of games under the aegis of my company, Collide Games. A this stage I am focusing on the product, and on connecting with fellow enthusiasts and game developers at home and abroad, but I am planning for a Kickstarter event later this year. Stay tuned for more details on how you can support the project and get your hands on a copy!

In the meantime, I invite you to join me as I talk tabletop shop, discuss my process of game development, my influences and inspirations, my thoughts on board games new and old and of the industry as a whole. Whether you’re a seasoned tabletop veteran or a newcomer to the world of board games, there’s a place for you in the vibrant community I’m hoping to build here.

Thank for coming along, and enjoy the ride!

Warm regards,

Kian Edwards – Collide Games
